Grade 7 Music, 3rd Quarter- Elements of Music



I. Objectives 

  • Identify and describe the basic elements of music 

  • Shows appreciation for different types of music by expressing personal reaction and preference

  • Demonstrate understanding of musical elements by completing listening tasks and simple response activities 


II. Topic - Analyzing the Elements of Music Through Listening 

We will explore music not by performing first, but by listening deeply noticing rhythms, melodies, instruments, and how music makes us feel.


III. Learner’s Activities

Music can tell a story without using words. Just by listening, you can feel emotions, imagine scenes, or recognize patterns. In this lesson, you will train your ears to hear melody, rhythm, tempo, dynamics, timbre, and more. No need for instruments, your ears are your instruments today. Let’s begin your listening journey. 


Activity 1: Listen and Identify 

Identify the elements of music in a musical piece. This activity sharpens your listening skills. By focusing on tempo, dynamics, instruments, and melody, you’ll learn to break down a piece of music like analyzing the ingredients pd a dish.

Instructions:

2. First listening, just enjoy the music

3. Second Listening: Now observe. Take notes.

4. Answer these questions in your notebook

- What is the tempo?

- How are the dynamics?

- What instruments do you hear?

- How does the melody move?

5. Write your answer in simple sentences.


Activity 2: Rhythm Clap Back

Rhythm gives music its energy and movements. By clapping patterns, you learn timing, coordination, and how musicians communicate rhythmically.

Instructions:

2. Sit or stand comfortably.

3. Follow the clapping patterns shown in the video.

4. Replay the video at least 2 times to practice.

5. After clapping, answer these reflection questions:

- Which rhythm was easiest?

- Which one was hardest?

- Why do you think rhythm is important in music?

6.  Write 3-5 sentences for your reflection.


Activity 3: Music Mood Analysis 

Music is powerful, it can change your mood instantly. This activity helps you connect the elements of music to the emotions they create.

Instructions:

1. Listen to these two contrasting songs

2. Listen to each piece for at least 1 minute.

3. Compare them by answering:

- Which song has faster tempo?

- Which one has softer dynamics?

- Which song made you feel relaxed? Which felt exciting?

- What musical elements caused these feelings?

4. Write a short paragraph describing the difference between the two.


Activity 4: Texture And Timbre exploration- Layers of Sound

 To recognize timbre (sound quality) and texture (thin or thick layers of sound)

Instructions:

1. Listen to these two constrasting examples

2. Answer this following question after listening 

- Which piece has thin texture

- Which piece has thick texture 

- Describe the timbre of the solo instrument 

- How does the orchestra sound different?

3. Write 4-5 sentences comparing their sound characteristics.
