 I. Objectives

At the end of this lesson, learners should be able to:


  • Describe the characteristics and musical styles of selected traditional folksongs from the Lowlands of Luzon.  

  • Analyze how the folksongs of Lowlands of Luzon convey emotion, tempo, and cultural expression.  

  • Appreciate the cultural significance of the Folksongs of Lowlands of Luzon through a storytelling.


II. Topic: Folk Songs (Music of Lowlands of Luzon)

The folksongs of the Lowlands of Luzon, such as “Magtanim ay Di Biro,” “Leron Leron Sinta,” “Atin Cu Pung Singsing,” and “Pamulinawen,” reflect the daily life, emotions, and cultural practices of the region through their unique melodies and rhythms.


This lesson will engage you not only through listening but also through feeling the music via movement and rhythm.

Analyze and describe the tempo, mood, and distinct musical features of each folksong. Please do this activity in Microsoft Word and upload it in our Google Drive through the attached link below.


2. Activity: “Storytelling Through Song”

  1. Listen to one of the selected Lowland Luzon folksongs.

  2. Using either drawings, short written paragraphs, or even a recorded oral narration, retell the story or meaning of the folksong based on what you learned and how the music made you feel.

  3. Reflect on how the song’s melody, tempo, and rhythm help communicate the story or emotion in the folksong.

  4. Upload your output in our Google Drive through the attached link below.

Write a reflection by answering the guide questions. Please do this activity in Microsoft Word.

  • What story or message did you discover from your chosen folksong?
