 I. Objectives

At the end of this lesson, learners should be able to:

  • Define music appreciation.

  • Identify the basic elements of music (tempo, dynamics, rhythm, pitch, timbre).

  • Describe a musical piece using proper music-appreciation terms.

  • Show respect and attentiveness while listening to music.

The teacher shows the chart/slides and explains briefly:

  • Tempo – speed of music

  • Dynamics – loudness/softness

  • Rhythm – beat patterns

  • Pitch – high and low sounds

  • Timbre – quality of sound/instrument color



1. Preparatory Activity

Play 3 short music examples (Classical, Folk, Pop instrumental).
After each, students answer:

  • Tempo: fast/slow

  • Dynamics: loud/soft

  • Mood: happy/sad/calm/energetic

  • Instruments heard


Teacher guides students in completing a Listening Chart


2. Activity: “Group Activity (5 members per group):


Each group receives one music excerpt.
They must prepare a 2–3 sentence description using:

  • tempo

  • dynamics

  • rhythm

  • timbre

  • overall mood

Groups present findings to the class
